Project Reveal: A Spa Retreat Bathroom Design for Everyday Living

The best bathrooms do more than provide a place to get ready in the morning—they offer a place to slow down.
When we began designing this Ashburn, Virginia master bathroom, our goal was simple: create a space that felt like a luxury spa while functioning beautifully for everyday life. We wanted every material, every finish, and every detail to contribute to a feeling of calm.
Creating the Calm
Rather than relying on bold trends, we focused on timeless finishes and a restrained palette that would feel just as beautiful years from now.
Soft stone-look porcelain tile wraps the room, creating continuity from floor to shower walls. The result is layered, inviting, and quietly luxurious.
Nothing competes for attention. Every element works together to create a sense of peace.
Designed Like a Luxury Spa
One of the defining features of this bathroom is the curbless shower.
By eliminating the traditional shower curb, the room feels larger, more open, and visually uninterrupted. The seamless transition from bathroom floor to shower creates the clean, sophisticated aesthetic often found in five star hotels and high-end spas.
Beyond its beauty, the curbless design offers improved accessibility and allows the entire room to feel connected.
Inside the shower, a custom curved bench creates a comfortable place to relax, while quality plumbing fixtures elevate the everyday shower into an experience.

Comfort You Can Feel
Sometimes, luxury isn't seen with the eyes. It's felt.
Radiant heated floors were an important part of this design, adding an element of comfort that quickly becomes one of those features homeowners wonder how they ever lived without.
It's an investment in everyday living—one that makes the morning routine feel just a little more enjoyable, especially in the colder months.
Layering Warmth and Character
To balance the clean architectural lines, we also included natural materials throughout the space. The mosaic floor and upper shower wall tiles are natural stone with a fantastic, earthy feel.
A soft linen Roman shade diffuses natural light without sacrificing privacy.
Above the freestanding tub, a delicate capiz shell chandelier brings texture and movement, creating a subtle focal point that feels elegant without overwhelming the room.
Designed for the Way Our Clients Live
At Oak & Lace, we believe thoughtful design has the power to change our clients' everyday lives. Sometimes that means imagining the flow of an entire house that hasn't been built yet. Other times, it means reimagining what is there.
